On June 2nd, 2022, after being delayed in 2021, Diablo Immortal was released for iOS, Android and Windows devices. We saw a similar response when we announced that we were bringing Diablo to console, and we saw a similar response to the announcement of Hearthstone. "We know our audience here is passionately PC- and console-focused. In an interview with Kotaku, Blizzard co-founder Allen Adham revealed he anticipated a backlash to the announcement, although "not to this degree," saying: The interaction at the convention also spawned the Do You Guys Not Have Phones? meme. Also during the session, the audience could be heard booing after Blizzard announced there were no plans for a PC release of the game (shown below, right). The visual quality on display is also impressive. On November 2nd, 2018, Blizzard unveiled Diablo Immortal at its annual BlizzCon event (shown below).ĭuring the Q&A session, a man asked stood up and asked the Blizzard team if the game was "an out-of-season April Fools' joke" (shown below, left). It is grittier, more serious and almost has truly desolate vibe to it. It will be interesting if Blizzard will follow the teachings of Path of Exile, allowing players who prefer to play solo to have their own instanced areas, free of any unwanted company.ĭiablo IV looks much more grounded visually too. These features were generally well received in the mobile game. You’ll find random people who have been dynamically matchmade to you, allowing the implementation of dynamic events and world bosses, which require multiple players to tackle down. The open world of Sanctuary features a multiplayer system very similar to that of Immortal. A few of the features that we’ve seen so far also show a new, big influence: Diablo Immortal. Blizzard do seem to have changed their stance, insisting on the “purely cosmetic microtransactions”, which has unfortunately become the norm for AAA 60 to 70$ videogames.ĭiablo IV looks much darker and more mature than its predecessor, and it seems to be trying to be more of a sequel to Diablo II than III. This new footage shown at The Game Awards has given people a lot of hype, but fans of the franchise should rightly be on the fence given the whole Diablo Immortal debacle.
